Song Of The Day 10/13/2012: Mac Davis - "Lucas Was A Redneck"

Going to the Light In The Attic 10-year anniversary party tonight (actually by the time you read this it'll have already happened). I stumbled upon a list Dave Segal made for The Stranger of the ten greatest albums released by LITA, which featured an anthology that just came out last July called Country Funk 1969-75. Lodged on that compilation is this surprisingly biting song from Mac Davis, in which he takes down an oafish, rural reprobate who's "one half stupid and the other half dumb." Davis really lays it on Lucas in the song's finale, in which it's revealed the title character is pretty much a vacant, brutish twit. You know the type. Spoiler alert: He dies.
