Song Of The Day 9/26/2013: Albert Hammond - "The Free Electric Band"

This is Albert Hammond, most famous for his '70s Top 10 hit "It Never Rains In Southern California," in which a would-be actor relocates to California, tries to be an actor, keeps getting doors slammed in his face, then either overdoses, or commits suicide, or gets a job at a Dairy Queen, condemned to languish in obscurity.

In "The Free Electric Band" a would-be musician relocates to California, dismisses his well-off parents' concerns about his career, enrolls at UC Berkeley, picks up a girl in social science, and drops out to pursue music full-time with uncertain results. By all rights he should now do a song about a blogger who relocates to California and is tragically killed by a runaway search engine.
