Song Of The Day 1/5/2014: Blondie - "11:59"
B-Sides Week: "11:59" was the B-side of Blondie's "Heart of Glass," which was the beginning of their hit parade which cleverly disguised their punkish origins and made them sound more like a disco, reggae or rap outfit, depending on the weather. Which is not to say they were insincere or facetious, just that I much preferred "Dreaming." This song (which was also on the album Parallel Lines) is also one of my favorite Deborah Harry moments, clustering the drag of artificial intimacy with the kind of indistinct apocalypse that must have bothered a lot of New Yorkers in the '80s. It bothered me and I wasn't even there. I was at the mall.
