Song Of The Day 5/24/2014: Yann Tiersen feat. Neil Hannon - "Les Jours Tristes"

In this week's episode of "Trying To Squeeze Something By Neil Hannon Onto the Blog," here's a song he cowrote with French musician Yann Tiersen for the soundtrack of the beguiling 2001 French movie Amélie. Neil's vocal rendition appeared on Tiersen's album L'Absente, and also on the B-side of a Divine Comedy single. It was brought to my attention by the West Coast's other board-certified Divine Comedy connoisseur Andy Lewis. "Les Jours Tristes" sounds familiar to me now that I play it back. If you haven't seen Amélie yet I recommend it about as strongly as one possibly can. The plot summary on IMDb begins, "Amélie is a story about a girl named Amélie whose childhood was suppressed by her Father's mistaken concerns of a heart defect. With these concerns Amélie gets hardly any real life contact with other people. This leads Amélie to resort to her own fantastical world and dreams of love and beauty." Yeah, too bad I can't relate to any of that.
