Mixtape Of The Day 9/13/2015: The Hidden '60s, Vol. 1
The Hidden '60s, Part 1 – As I mentioned Monday in shameless self-congratulation, I auditioned 362 songs for inclusion for the first Hidden '60s week, and obviously couldn't feature all the tunes I fell in like with for SOTD. So with the assistance of our friends at Mixcloud (they're not really my friends but I'm sure if we met each other we'd get along like gangbusters) I spliced together a mix featuring 32 songs -- including the seven SOTD's from last week -- from 1960-63 that stopped their chart runs before they hit the Top 40. And that's still not enough; I have a bunch of starred items on my thoroughly detailed Excel sheet I still have to figure out what to do with. But for now, here's Mixtape #10, full of the exotica, raucousness, pathos, pleading and surfing expeditions that typified the '60s in America before the British invaded with their obscene haircuts and their fussy background vocals.
Caution: You may experience some mono recordings and record scratches in this mix, but that's part of the charm. This ain't dubstep. Okay! Here's what you get:
