Song Of The Day 5/21/2016: Laurie Lingo & the Dipsticks – “Convoy G.B.”
Somehow "Convoy" crossed the Atlantic, where it fell into the hands of one-hit parodists Laurie Lingo & the Dipsticks. They were actually two Radio 1 DJ's, so I guess you could call them the Rick Dees...es, of Great Britain. Today's video was taken from their appearance on Top of the Pops, and the performance is only slightly more amusing than the lyrics, which appear to address nothing more than the impossibility of forming a decent convoy on the M-1 Motorway in England. Also contains a tribute to British TV and radio presenter Jimmy Savile, who in later years was discovered to have been an evil pervert. Seriously, my performance the other night was far funnier, and it takes a lot for me to say something self-promotional as that. "10-4 good buddy, send in the clowns, there oughta be clowns, don't bother they're here, roger that!" You had to be there.
