As an R&B-centric show, it's obviously rare for
Star Time to focus on rock and roll artists (to my amazed embarrassment I've yet to play Jimi Hendrix). But the passing of Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts a few days ago made me remember how heavily the band relied on R&B and blues. Watts was also a jazz connoisseur. So among the usual vintage soul, this episode features 4 Stones songs: three from the era when they could still be considered a British R&B band, and one from the '70s that actually made the R&B singles charts. Thwack away, Mr. Watts.
