Song Of The Day 1/5/2013: Catatonia - "I Am The Mob"

I loved Cerys Matthews' voice when Catatonia first showed up in the late '90s. (Well, they basically only showed up in the late '90s, they didn't stick around too much longer after that.) It was a husky instrument, very reedy and occasionally out of breath. It didn't have the profile of being a particularly perfect voice for Britpop, but Cerys nailed it. By the time I was introduced to Catatonia, I was tiring a little of the male-dominated Britpop scene. Most of the male singers sounded to me like they were mainly concerned with exiting the bathroom without toilet paper under their shoe. Cerys brought it. The goods, that is, not the toilet paper.
