Crowdsourced Song Of The Day 2/4/2013: The Flower Travellin' Band - "Satori Pt. 1"

Today's CSOTD comes to us courtesy of Joel Hansen, who was awfully upset about my not picking up on his previous suggestion of a highlight from The Banana Splits. That's because I was waiting for you to really come through, Joel, which you did with this one. The Flower Travellin' Band were a Japanese unit who, from the sounds of this song, traced the melodic and rhythmic developments of Black Sabbath at the exact same time as the originals did. The Satori album was released in 1971 and consisted of five identically named set pieces ("Satori," if you were curious). Given their timing and stylistic similarities, I have to wonder how many metal and prog-rock musicians don't know about this album. You have no excuse for not knowing about this album before my pansy-ass power-pop self did. Thanks, Joel!
