Song Of The Day 3/15/2013: Ella Fitzgerald - "This Gun Don't Care"

Ella Fitzgerald recorded an album of country covers called Misty Blue in 1968. I believe it's considered one of her more minor achievements. I wouldn't say it's a mistake, because Ella Fitzgerald did not make mistakes. If nothing else, Misty Blue shows Ella and her designees as shrewd and adventurous selectors of material. There aren't a lot of obvious choices on the album. It includes what's arguably my favorite Hank Cochran song, "It's Only Love." And also this 2nd Amendment number by Larry Lee. My research team in Switzerland could only verify one other version of this song, by Wanda Jackson. If the jazz police weren't threatening enough, at least in 1968, they were armed.
