Song Of The Day 5/4/2013: George Jones - "How Come It"

The death of George Jones came during Metal Week, which is all over except the dry-cleaning, so I didn't cover it until today. It was tough one to swallow. I used to sing "He Stopped Loving Her Today" with Rodeo Kill, and was converted to Possum's life plan pretty quickly thanks to songs like "White Lightning," "The Grand Tour" and one of the most bizarre country songs ever recorded, "The King Is Gone (So Are You)." I'm also waiting for them to reissue the album The Battle, which Sony hasn't done yet. "How Come It" was recorded and distributed under the name "Thumper Jones" in the late '50s, as an attempt to cash in on the rockabilly market. Jones disavowed it later in his life, but I have no idea why. It's quite good.
