Song Of The Day 2/24/2014: Jello Biafra with Mojo Nixon & The Toadliquors - "Love Me I'm A Liberal"

The Partisan Divide: Normally I avoid political discourse on this space the way Alec Baldwin is apparently going to avoid public life in the future, but I thought it might be a relatively safe time to throw some barbs around. We in America are enjoying a prolonged period of ongoing legislative stalemate at the federal level. The Republican Party is going through the same identity crisis the Democratic Party went through about 20-25 years ago. Invective is being tossed around like food items at a Spanish festival. Politicians, on the spot to keep abreast of more issues than ever, are now just making shit up, like credit cards can be deadly weapons and entire states would be better off if teachers could spank our kids harder.

Personally I'm an independent, so I can sit back and suck on bon-bons as the brand names scorch the earth. I thought it would be fun to have five days of songs where we mock both sides as equally as possible, and finish the week having added nothing of substance to the debate.

Jello Biafra and Mojo Nixon, as unlikely a pairing as one might have imagined, hooked up to make one of the more twisted recordings on Alternative Tentacles Records, Prairie Home Invasion. They included this update of Phil Ochs' "Love Me I'm A Liberal," which sticks it to the NIMBYs, facile do-gooders (more like say-gooders), and fear-dependent hypocrites for whom identification is more important than substance or thought. It's also funkier than Phil Ochs, but he's in no position to do anything about it now.
