The Happy Electrode: The Buchla Music Easel was thrust upon us in 1973, designed for portability -- they call it "suitcase-sized" -- and reducing the wayward wires and functionality of the big Buchla kiosks to a more immediate, tractable number. It's for sale again, too: Last year Buchla resurrected the Easel for its fortieth birthday, and it can be yours for the low low price of $4,000. They've recreated it down to the most minute detail, even the faux-Ye Olde English font that spells out "the Electric Music Box" there above the keyboard.
