The Happy Electrode: The Buchla Music Easel was thrust upon us in 1973, designed for portability -- they call it "suitcase-sized" -- and reducing the wayward wires and functionality of the big Buchla kiosks to a more immediate, tractable number. It's for sale again, too: Last year Buchla resurrected the Easel for its fortieth birthday, and it can be yours for the low low price of $4,000. They've recreated it down to the most minute detail, even the faux-Ye Olde English font that spells out "the Electric Music Box" there above the keyboard. "Resta," from synthesist and former Nine Inch Nails guy Alessandro Cortini, might not show off the versatility of the BME, but this wizardly consultant is happy to show you the ropes:
