Song Of The Day 3/2/2016: The Screaming Blue Messiahs – “Lie Detector”
Dropped Off In the '80s – Perhaps you'll recall the Screaming Blue Messiahs from their initial burst on the MTV scene with the minor hits "Wild Blue Yonder" or "Smash the Market Place." No, you won't. You'll remember them for "I Wanna Be a Flintstone," the raving half-novelty hit that scurried onto the soundtrack of the minor disaster of a movie starring John Goodman and Rosie O'Donnell. But upon launch they were an easily irritable band of considerable power. "Lie Detector" is another of my favorite deep tracks of the '80s. Not much in the way of poetry to assess here. It's your basic romantic crack-up in the face of reasonably priced technology and a constantly recuperating late-Victorian lifeview. Lead singer and ideal Guy Ritchie villain Bill Carter takes a hard-line Womackian stance and leaves the cheap hairpieces for the undeserving.
