Mixtape Of The Day 8/21/2016: The Hidden '70s, Vol. 2: 1973-76

The Hidden '70s, Part 2 – Here you go, attention span cadets: the second of the five-volume (that decision was made a couple weeks ago) Hidden '70s mixtape series, covering the years 1973 to 1976. Along with the seven songs featured this past week, among the goodies in this laundry basket are:
  • An intro mashup that combines a Nixon campaign theme song with one of his famous mixtapes

  • A plot-twisting cautionary tale from First Choice

  • A gloriously, chemically imbalanced rock-funk joint from The Eleventh Hour

  • A Cal Smith song that went to #1 on the country charts

  • A nice bit of strolling sleaze from Edgar Winter Group composed and I believe sung by Dan Hartman

  • Whatever David Essex was smoking

  • A bizarrely astounding song from Reparata (who was featured in The Hidden '60s)

  • A song by Bobby Bland, the unofficial king of the Hidden series because his songs kept showing up to review in both the '60s and '70s

  • My favorite 10cc song

  • Probably my favorite Tubes song

  • Another sentimental parting shot from Bowie

  • A mostly accurate history of the talk box guitar effect.

Enjoy the living crap outta this.
