Song Of The Day 11/26/2016: Moondog with Julie Andrews & Martyn Green – “Songs of Fun and Nonsense”
I've been re-listening to Moondog a little more lately. He was the blind street performer who was known in New York City as "The Viking of 6th Avenue," known for dressing in Nordic garb and for selling mimeographed writings to passersby. He was also a seriously regarded classical musician, on friendly terms with Leonard Bernstein, Diane Arbus and any number of beat poets. Today's track (which I really wish I had more time to talk about) was on a recording with a pre-fame Julie Andrews and British theatre actor Martyn Green. This is exactly the kind of music I'm going to be winding down the year with, so strap it. Or on.
