The Top Songs Of The Day of 2016: #20-11

The hits just keep on comin' (except for one, see below).

20. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds feat. Kylie Minogue – “Where the Wild Roses Grow”
June 16

From Unlikely Collaborations week. A haunting song beyond measure.

19. Argosy – “Mr. Boyd”
June 18

Trust me, this one was good. But I think someone in Camp Supertramp (this song featured pre-Tramp Roger Hodgson, and a young Elton John) has been exercising their copyright muscle because all of a sudden a lot of Tramp-y stuff has vanished from online, including this. And it's not available on Spotify either. So look for the deluxe reissue sometime in 2019, I guess.

18. Alan Freed and His Rock and Roll Band – “Rock and Roll Boogie”
Jan. 29

From a week featuring DJs who tried doing their own songs. Freed may have been rock and roll's first champion, but... well, thanks for the support Alan.

17. The Housemartins – “Sheep”
Mar. 3

From the week featuring '80s groups who were frozen in time.

16. David Bowie – “Cracked Actor”
Jan. 13

He's still here.

15. The Salty Peppers – “La La La” + “Uh Huh Yeah”
Feb. 5

The death of Earth, Wind & Fire's Maurice White was another huge blow that I still don't feel I talked about. The Salty Peppers were his pre-EWF band.

14. Douwe Bob – “Slow Down”
May 8

Eurovision again. This was likely my favorite song of the contest. Of course it didn't win.

13. Muddy Waters – “Blow Wind Blow”
Oct. 14

Posted on the day we were supposed to get a gigantic, possibly destructive autumn storm in the Pacific Northwest. We were supposed to be crippled by its force. We got some leaves in our driveway and that was about it.

12. Charles Earland – “Leaving This Planet”
Aug. 23

I originally posted that I was insecure about writing about jazz, but here's the second such song that made the annual Top 40.

11. The Roches – “Losing True”
Feb. 28

The harmonies will and should haunt your dreams.

Tomorrow: #10-2.
