This week focuses on some of the more obscure tracks that were hiding along the outer edges of my record crate (which is metaphorical) between 1965 and 1975. Some real surprises here, including eventual country superstar Ronnie Milsap, early Patti Austin, and the Last Poets' Jalal Mansur Nuriddin, playing the part of hustler kingpin Lightnin' Rod. Also: two shots of Charles Wright's Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, albeit one of them under another name. Also also: fugitives, mules and crickets.
