Song Of The Day 4/27/2012: Helen Reddy - "Summer Of '71"

As heard on WFMU last week, on Pseu's Thing With A Hook.

"I Am Woman" notwithstanding, Helen Reddy occasionally sang some fairly... well, not "unconventional," but ever so gently twisted material. Go listen to "Angie Baby" which still sounds creepy. And there's something copiously wrong with "Delta Dawn." I mean that girl needs fixin'. But before you revisit those songs dig this tune, in which the verses tell a positive, uplifting story of communion between friends, but whose chorus casually and unexpectedly introduces the fact that they're all on psychedelic drugs. I ain't judging.
