Song Of The Day 6/25/2013: Vikki Carr - "Everything I've Got"

Scopitone Week: Not the sauciest or weirdest Scopitone film, but certainly one of the better songs. It's a Rodgers & Hart composition, so that explains why it's pretty good. But still batty. It was introduced in the Broadway musical comedy By Jupiter, which was about a conflict between female-led Amazons and wandering masculine Greeks looking for the Sacred Girdle of Diana. Plus Homer's there to write the whole thing down. Vikki Carr's version sort of takes the sass out of it, a little, with the whole marching band intro and the swinging horns, but they were different times. They were hanging out in abandoned industrial parks, as you can see. Isn't Vikki cute as a button? Tomorrow we get back to the seedier side of Scopitone.

(By the way, an outstanding version of "Everything I've Got" was done by jazz singer Blossom Dearie. Might be more your speed.)
