Song Of The Day 8/16/2013: Henry Mancini - "Springtime For Hitler"

Quarterly Covers Report: Proving that absolutely every song in the world can be translated into rocksteady reggae or Latin pop, the great composer Henry Mancini took the scandalously funny "Springtime For Hitler" from Mel Brooks' movie The Producers and turned it into Perez Prado-style Latin pop music. Of course as an instrumental the lyrical, um, assault of the original is rendered moot. It's still odd to see an album of harmless instrumental pop with "Springtime For Hitler" stamped on the sleeve. It's also too short. But given all that, Mancini does pull it off and makes a perfectly reasonable cha-cha. It certainly encourages me to make my goosestep more sensuous and exotic.
