Song Of The Day 5/29/2014: ABBA vs. Van Halen - "Super Jumper" (MadMixMustang)

M*A*S*H*U*P Week: "Jump," Van Halen's still-captivating set piece of squeaky synthetic joy, lightly moussed come-hither-tude, calisthenic liberation and just a wee bit of the self-loathing, can go with any other song ever made. It's like a pair of tan trousers in that sense. ABBA's "Super Trouper" is up there with "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and "Take A Chance On Me" as one of my very favorite songs of the bitterly missed Swedish contract bridge partners. Yet another song about the tawdriness, exhaustion and bad linens of the musician's touring life, "Super Trouper" tells of how a regularly buggered chanteuse finds her second wind via the realization that one of the 20,000-strong throng cheering her every sequin at her next show will be her very own special boyfriend. Maybe it's David Lee Roth! Oh, nope, wait... it's Sammy Hagar. Uuuuh, hold on again... oh, honey, it's Gary Cherone. Tough break, Frida. This might be the best mashup of the week from a strict execution standpoint. Hopefully you won't want to be executed yourself after hearing it.
