Star Time #227: Love, That's America

The man in the photo is the recently departed Melvin Van Peebles, whose seminal movie Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song I only saw for the first time earlier this year. (I'd started watching it before, but never finished it.) I was much more familiar with his more idiosyncratic, occasionally fascinating music career, two pieces of which are on this show. Rest in peace. The show's other highlights include my finally realizing the Mariners were actual late-season contenders and fine R&B selections from 1967 to 1977.
