Mixtape Of The Day 1/23/2016: Disco Doubt

Put down that historical novel! Stop binge-watching Dynasty! It's disco night! Alienate your teenage grandchildren and get down!

Here is the first mixtape of 2016, a whole three weeks in the making. Normally I squirt out mixtapes in about two to three days, but this mix carried the additional burden of following certain production values. What you have here is a 95-minute disco odyssey covering some rare-to-mildly-obscure tracks from approximately 1975 to 1983. Some of the tracks on this mixtape are here because I genuinely love them (Machine, Teri DeSario, Curtis, Uncle Louie, Tina Charles). Some are here because they interrupt a disco dancer's normal train of thought (Garçons, Was [Not Was], Black Devil). Some are here because they're marvelous send-ups (Cristina, Evasions, Coati Mundi). One is here because it's called "Is It All Over My Face?" (Loose Joints). At least a couple of tracks are here to disrupt your sense of rhythm (all the PSHRG tracks). And, finally, a last-minute, appropriate addition from the recently deceased.

I'm quite fond of this mix. Don't ever ask me to work this hard again.

I would also like to put out a personal thank you to Jennifer Parker for her star-making turn as The Irate Phone Caller. Track 14, exactly at the 48:00 mark.

Oh -- yes, the origins of the slightly screwy title to this mix are explained fairly quickly after it starts. And yes, it's as silly as you think.

Enjoy!
